Clergy Abuse Lawsuit

Victims of sexual assault can experience long lasting effects on both their physical and mental health.  If you were abused as a minor in a place that should have provided a safe environment, like a school or church:

Across the country, attorneys are scrambling to file a new wave of lawsuits alleging sexual abuse by clergy, thanks to rules enacted in 15 states that extend or suspend the statute of limitations to allow claims stretching back decades. Associated Press reporting found the deluge of suits could surpass anything the nation’s clergy sexual abuse crisis has seen before, with potentially more than 5,000 new cases and payouts topping $4 billion.

What Constitutes Abuse or Inappropriate Conduct?

Any sexual behavior with a minor

Any unwanted sexual behavior upon another

Inappropriate touching

Requesting sexual favors in exchange for "rewards"

Unnecessarily photographing

Threatens to keep the behavior a secret

Sexual abuse, also referred to as molestation, is undesired sexual behavior by one person upon another. It often happens by using force or by taking advantage of another. When force is immediate, of short duration or infrequent, it is called sexual assault.
